FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about appointments, aftercare, healing, jewelry and orders. If you can't find what you're looking for, write to us.

Appointments and procedure

Do I need an appointment?
An appointment is recommended so you don't have to wait. Our walk-in policy is on the prices page. You can use the online form to book.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your ID, reference photos for your ear styling, and information about any allergies or medication you take. If you are under 18, your parent's or guardian's ID is also required.
Should I eat before my appointment?
Yes. Getting pierced on an empty stomach can make you dizzy; have a light meal before you come.
What happens if I'm late?
Short delays are fine; with longer delays the appointment may be shortened or rescheduled. Policy details are on the prices page.
Can I cancel my appointment?
Yes. You can cancel or change it free of charge up to the stated time before. Any prepayment is handled according to the cancellation terms.
Can someone come with me?
You can bring one companion to your appointment. Details are on the prices page.
How long does it take?
The piercing itself takes a few seconds. Including preparation, marking, choosing jewelry and aftercare instructions, the total time can be 15–45 minutes.
Can I get more than one piercing on the same day?
Yes, but for healing and sleeping comfort it's best to limit the number and spread your plan over time. Your piercer will decide after looking at your ear.

Pain and preparation

Does a piercing hurt a lot?
Pain varies from person to person. Most people feel a brief sting in the lobe and a more noticeable pressure in cartilage. The procedure takes a few seconds.
Can I take a painkiller?
Check with the studio before taking any medication on your own; some medicines can increase bleeding. Numbing creams are not recommended.
Can I get pierced after drinking alcohol?
No. Alcohol increases bleeding and affects healing. Avoid alcohol before your appointment.
Can I get pierced when I'm sick or have a fever?
No. If you are ill or have a fever, please reschedule.
Can I get pierced while pregnant or breastfeeding?
In general, new piercings are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor.
I'm afraid of needles or blood, what should I do?
Tell your piercer during the appointment; they will go at a calm pace. Sitting down and breathing deeply helps.
Is a crunching sound normal during a cartilage piercing?
Yes. The sound as the needle passes through cartilage is normal.

Aftercare

How should I clean my piercing?
Wash your hands, spray sterile 0.9% saline, and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Don't twist the jewelry.
How many times a day should I clean it?
As needed; once or twice a day is enough for most people. If your piercer recommended a different routine, follow that.
Should I twist the jewelry?
No. Twisting tears the tissue and drags crust into the piercing.
Can I use alcohol, peroxide or ointment?
No. They irritate the tissue and slow down healing.
Can I use contact lens solution instead of saline?
No. Its additives can cause irritation. Use only additive-free sterile saline.
Can I shower?
Yes. Don't leave shampoo or soap residue on the piercing, and pat dry with a clean paper towel afterwards.
Can I go into a pool or the sea?
During healing, avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes and the sea.
Can I exercise?
Yes, but shower and clean the piercing right after sweating. Be careful with contact sports.
What should I do when sleeping with a piercing?
Don't sleep on it; use a travel (donut) pillow for ear piercings. Use a clean pillowcase.
Can I wear makeup?
Keep makeup and skincare products away from the piercing. Clean gently in the evening.
When can I change my jewelry?
Not until the piercing is fully healed. Do the first change with your piercer; timing depends on the spot.
What is downsizing?
Replacing the longer starter bar with a shorter one once the swelling has gone down. Your piercer decides the timing.

Healing times

How long does an earlobe take to heal?
About 6–8 weeks.
How long does a helix take to heal?
About 3–6 months; it can take longer for some people.
How long do tragus, conch, daith and rook take to heal?
About 6–12 months.
How long does a nose piercing take to heal?
About 4–6 months.
How long does a septum take to heal?
About 2–3 months; longer for some people.
How long does a navel piercing take to heal?
About 6–12 months.
Is a piercing that looks healed on the outside fully healed?
Not always. The inner tissue matures later. Have it checked before changing jewelry.

Problems

Is crusting normal?
Yes. Light yellowish crust is lymph fluid. Soften it with saline and let it come off on its own.
Is redness around the piercing normal?
Mild redness is normal in the first days. If the redness spreads and warmth and pain increase, see a doctor.
What are the signs of infection?
Spreading redness, noticeable warmth, throbbing pain, smelly dark yellow-green discharge and fever.
Should I remove the jewelry if I suspect an infection?
Don't remove it yourself; the hole can close and trap the infection. Consult a doctor and your piercer first.
What is a piercing bump?
Usually a small swelling caused by irritation. It goes away once the cause (pressure, a long bar, movement) is removed.
What is a keloid?
Scar tissue that grows beyond the edges of the wound. A dermatologist makes the diagnosis.
My jewelry has become embedded, what should I do?
Don't try to remove it yourself; go to your piercer or a doctor right away.
My jewelry got caught or my ear tore, what should I do?
Stop pulling, stop the bleeding by pressing with a clean cloth, and go to the emergency room if it's serious.
I think I have a nickel allergy, what should I do?
Switch to nickel-free materials such as titanium or niobium and consult a dermatologist.

Jewelry and materials

Which material is suitable for a fresh piercing?
Implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136), implant steel (F138), niobium (B392) and nickel-free solid 14k gold or higher.
Is gold-plated jewelry suitable?
No. Plating wears off and the base metal touches the skin; solid gold is preferred.
Can silver jewelry be worn in a fresh piercing?
Not recommended. It oxidizes and its alloy may contain nickel.
Does titanium contain nickel?
Implant-grade titanium is nickel-free.
What is the difference between a labret and a barbell?
A labret has a flat back disc; a barbell is a bar with a ball at each end.
Can a hoop be worn as the first jewelry?
Usually not recommended; hoops move around. The first piece is a straight bar.
What is gauge?
It is the unit for jewelry thickness. 18g = 1.0 mm, 16g = 1.2 mm, 14g = 1.6 mm.
What is the difference between internally and externally threaded jewelry?
With internal threading the bar is smooth; with external threading the threads are on the outside and can scrape the tissue. Fresh piercings get internally threaded or push-pin jewelry.
What is push-pin (threadless) jewelry?
A thread-free system where the end sits in the bar with a pin.
Do anodized colors peel off?
Anodizing is not paint but a surface oxide layer; it lasts as long as it isn't damaged by abrasive products.

When will my order ship?
Orders are usually shipped within 1–3 business days.
How much is shipping?
The shipping fee and any free shipping campaign are shown on the cart page.

I ordered the wrong size, can I exchange it?
Unopened items can be exchanged within the stated period. Check the correct size in our size guide.

Studio and safety

How do you ensure hygiene?

Can under-18s get pierced?

Which jewelry brands are used in the studio?
We use jewelry made from implant-grade materials with stated standards.
