Short answer: Forward helix, kulağın ön üst kıvrımında yer alır. İyileşme genellikle 6–12 ay sürer, ağrısı helix gibi orta düzeydedir. Yakın iki delim bir arada çok şık durur.

What is a forward helix?

It is the cartilage at the upper front of the ear, close to the face. Usually two piercings are done side by side.

Pain and procedure

Because it is a cartilage piercing, there is a brief feeling of pressure.

Healing time

Genellikle 6–12 ay. Küçük kıvrım yerleşimi bakım ve takı boyu kontrolünü önemli kılar.

Which jewellery?

Two small labrets or straight bars. Jewellery length and diameter are chosen according to your anatomy.

Aftercare tips

Protect it from contact with hair and make-up, and reduce friction from mask straps.

Who is it suitable for?

People with suitable anatomy who want a double piercing. Suitability is assessed in person.

Forward helix anatomy and suitability

The forward helix is the area in the upper front fold of the ear, close to the face. Planned as a double, it looks symmetrical and stylish.

Before piercing, the piercer looks at the anatomy of the ear or area. Everyone's anatomy is different; some people may not have a suitable structure for the desired spot. In that case, the piercer suggests a safe alternative.

Advantages and things to watch for with a forward helix piercing

Pros:

  • Gives a small, delicate look.
  • Creates an elegant stack with paired jewellery.

Things to watch:

  • Because it is a narrow area, sizing is critical.
  • Watch out for contact with hair and glasses.

Daily life while your forward helix heals

For those with suitable anatomy; the piercer assesses the area beforehand.

During healing, do gentle saline aftercare and do not remove or change the jewellery. Watch out for factors such as pressure, hair, headphones and phones; consult your piercer if you see signs of irritation.

Before deciding on a forward helix piercing

Glasses arms or masks may touch this area of the ear; try to position them so they don't press on it.

With a free consultation before your appointment, we can assess your anatomy together and finalise the jewellery and size plan on the spot.

What is a forward helix and what does it look like?

A forward helix is done on the cartilage edge at the upper front of the ear, close to the face. Usually two or three small piercings are lined up in a row, and small studs side by side give an elegant, neat look. It is possible to start with one piercing and add more over time. The distance between piercings is adjusted to the jewellery size; if they are too close, the jewellery rubs together and healing becomes harder. The piercer marks them and checks the distance with you.

Pain, healing and expectations

Because it goes through cartilage, noticeable pressure is felt, but the procedure is over in a few seconds. Healing takes 6–12 months for most people; swelling is greatest in the first weeks. Healing does not progress in a straight line, and small irritations can occur. Because the forward helix is close to the hair, be careful about contact with hairspray and brushes. Pressure from side sleeping is also a major source of problems at this spot.

Choosing jewellery: studs and flatbacks

Small flatback labret studs are ideal at first. Because this area is small, rings and dangling jewellery can catch on hair and make healing harder. Choosing a small, simple gem end makes aftercare easier. After healing, you can play with different ends (moons, stars, small stones) and build a stack. The material should be implant-grade titanium.

Aftercare and daily life

Gently clean with saline twice a day and don't pick the crust. Hair clips or headbands should not touch the jewellery. Temporarily putting aside on-ear headphones and hats prevents irritation. Don't let your phone touch the new piercing. Pat dry with clean paper after cleaning; moisture causes irritation.

Common mistakes

  • Changing the jewellery too early
  • Lying on it and putting pressure on it
  • Leaving the long bar without downsizing
